Spring '18 Semester Favorites

My favorite finds from this semester include the Headspace mediation app, Skimm'd from the Couch and Girlboss Radio podcasts, Walmart grocery pickup, grapefruit la croix, and the new all-in-one travel palette from Urban decay. blogger style. current obsessions. spring 2018 trends. what I'm currently loving. fashion blog. makeup blog. new for spring 2018 | brazenandbrunette.com

Surprise! I'm back!! It's so weird that I haven't blogged in almost a month because the last time I went this long without blogging was on my 1L hiatus. And honestly I didn't even mean to stop blogging but my daily schedule during my externship ended up being wake up, get ready, get to work 6:30-7:30; work 8-5; workout 5:30-6:30; shower 7-7:30; dinner 7:30-8; relax 8-9; bedtime at 9. And I literally haven't been home for like over 6 weekends in a row (my cat hates me) because after Ryan moved out last semester for his job in Houston we were 8 hours a part, and when I go back home to see my parents we're 12 hours a part (honestly sometimes Texas really is too big), so now that I'm only 4 hours away from him it feels like a quick drive across town to get from Dallas to Houston. Anyways, it's been really hard because I've had all these post ideas in my head and no time to write! So I thought an easy transition back in to the swing of things are a few items I've loved this semester :)

Headspace

So obviously, this past semester has been very busy but in a different way. I feel like during school you have a lot to do but free time throughout the day to get it done but in the real world you don't have as much busywork to do but you somehow end up with less time in the day? It's weird! The feeling of running out of time in the day can be a very overwhelming feeling so I was excited when I found Headspace. It's an app that guides you through short meditations and helps you get out of your head. The guy who recorded it has this very soothing British accent and can calm you instantly. I got in the habit of doing it every night before I go to bed and I swear it helps me fall asleep faster! If you've been feeling overwhelmed (*cough* finals *cough*) then I really suggest you try this.

Podcasts

Even though I was lucky enough to be featured in a podcast, I've never really been this huge podcast listener. But as I said above, this semester I've made several trips down to Houston and although 4 hours is relatively a short drive, it can still be a hard drive when I get off work at 5 and have to fight both Dallas and Houston traffic just to see my boyfriend. The radio and Spotify are fine, but eventually I got tired of listening to the same songs over and over again. Then theSkimm came out with their podcast Skimm'd from the Couch and since I loved the last Skimm feature, I decided to give it a try. Podcasts are PERFECT for driving because they aren't repetitive like music, keep you engaged (and awake!), and maybe help you learn something new or better yourself. Skimm'd from the Couch is basically these really successful women talking about some real topics (think, handling finding out you had a miscarriage while at work or getting fired because your boss thinks you're self-promoting too much).

After listening to such great conversations, I can't get in on all the murder-mystery or comedy podcasts so when I finally got caught up on all of those episodes I found a good runner-up to listen to, Girl Boss Radio. This is along the same line of talking with really powerful women, and while it sometimes gets a little softer and can be just a general conversation, sometimes it also has some great life/career advice.

Walmart grocery pickup

Was not kidding when I said I've been busy! So this is actually something I've been wanting to try since Ryan and I lived together since we would somehow end up spending four hours getting groceries, but when I first tried it I just went to Walmart's website and when I tried to add like apples to my cart it said that item wasn't available online so I was really confused. Then I found out that they have a separate website for the groceries and it's much easier to use haha. If you order your groceries before 1pm, you can reserve a pickup time for later that evening or if you miss that cutoff you can order them for the future. What's great about this is that means that right as soon as you run out of something, you can instantly add it to your cart so you don't forget about it when it's "grocery day."

And you get $10 off your first order which coincidentally is how much delivery costs (if you pick it up yourself it's still free to have them go around and gather everything for you) so if you wanted you could just get free delivery on your first order. Speaking of money, I've found that this is much easier to budget with because you can compare prices right beside each other online and it saves you from impulsively adding random crap to your cart that you don't need (lol I'm sure this isn't exactly what they meant to be a selling point) and I've found that my weekly grocery bill is usually about $10 cheaper because of this, which is potentially about $500 in savings a year!!

Grapefruit La Croix

Lol I know I'm so far behind the La Croix trend, but I just got on it and I'm loving it! My little actually introduced me to it (ugh she keeps it young) to help me kick my Dr. Pepper habit. And I'm happy to say that that I almost never have a Dr. Pepper anymore and I'm so happy. I usually don't like flavored water or even tea because it tastes like flavored water but there's something just so crisp and fresh about the La Croix and I really like the grapefruit flavor. In fact, I'm almost kinda addicted to them and I look forward to my mid-day treat during bar prep. If you're trying to kick a Coke habit (lololol just realized how that sounds but in Texas Coke = soda) or just want to add some more water to your day, maybe try this out. The only thing that I would change about La Croix is that there's so many flavors but I don't want to waste money and accidentally pay for a box that I don't like, so I wish that there was a multi-flavor box that came with like one of every flavor so you can more easily try them out. But it is fun to obnoxiously fancy with your ~pamplemousse~.

Urban Decay Backtalk palette

Since I've been traveling so much this semester, I've began to loathe having to pack and unpack all of my makeup every single weekend. Although I have plenty of makeup palettes, I decided that I wanted one to be a dedicated "travel" palette that stays in my makeup bag full time and that I'll only use when I'm on the go so I really did my research to find something that can be multi-use. Enter this palette which is perfection for traveling because it comes with eyeshadow and blush and highlighter all in one! So really all you need is this, mascara, and a lipstick and you are good to go with an everyday look! And I love that it's still the size of a regular palette and doesn't take up hardly any room in a makeup bag.
let's be friends!

Fab Fit Fun Update

What products of a Fab Fit Fun subscription box are a hit or a miss? How many "fab", "fit", and "fun" products do you actually get? I'm answering both these questions by taking a look back at my last 3 boxes - Spring 2018, Winter 2017, and Fall 2017 and talking about whether or not Fab Fit Fun is still worth it. lifestyle blog. | brazenandbrunette.com

So apparently I'm terrible about writing Fab Fit Fun box reviews! When I got my spring box last week I was thinking about how I still need to write about my winter box and then when I got to thinking about what all I got in that, I realized that I never wrote about my fall box! So this is a hodge-podge catchup post! It's actually kind of nice that I'm playing catch up so I can honestly tell y'all what I still use or what was a total waste for me, instead of just my first impressions.

I also thought it might be helpful for those interested to see what's the actual breakdown of "fab" vs. "fit" vs. "fun." I'm assuming that all beauty products are fab, all workout products are fit, and everything else is fun.

Fall 2017 box

What products of the Fall 2017 Fab Fit Fun subscription box are a hit or a miss? How many "fab", "fit", and "fun" products do you actually get? I'm answering both these questions by taking a look back at my last 3 boxes - Spring 2018, Winter 2017, and Fall 2017 and talking about whether or not Fab Fit Fun is still worth it. lifestyle blog. | brazenandbrunette.com

Since I prepaid for a full year of boxes in advance, I get to go to their site and choose between different options before my box is shipped.

Gym bag-  I chose the "meet me at the barre" bag because I liked it better than the "gym & juice" and "will workout for cupcakes" option. What sucked is I got this about a month after I ordered my gym bag so I've actually never used this. It's a very simple gym bag made out of this jean-like material and tbh I'm pretty sure they used the same pattern that I did in home ec in high school when I made my own bag. I currently have this stashed in my closet in case I ever need an extra overnight bag, but this hasn't gotten a lot of use out of it.

Mud mask - I have just about used up this mud mask and I love it! You really have to layer it on pretty thick to make it a "mask," but afterwards your skin is really, really soft. My only complaint is that the pump was on the bottom of the bottle so you have to lay it flat on your counter and maneuver it just-so to get it to work one handed.

Charcoal teeth whitener - I was really excited about this because I've seen the viral Facebook videos about how this will instantly whiten your teeth. However, after reading the reviews online I became a little concerned because some people reported that the charcoal got stuck in their gum lime and gave them nasty looking gums. I also was a little worried when I talked to my friend in dental hygiene school about it and she said they hadn't learned about it but her concern would be that it would be too abrasive on your teeth and ruin your enamel. Truthfully, I have only used this twice. The charcoal dust gets everywhere and stains your bathroom counter and sink and you do have to rinse a lot and use the re-use the brush after you've cleaned it off just to get all the black out of your mouth. And it didn't really seem to whiten my teeth so it just wasn't worth the hassle.

Hot/cold pack - This was the one thing I was most excited to get. Whenever I'm hungover, I always get hot the next day and force Ry to put his cold hands on my forehead to cool me down. Needless to say, I knew I'd get a lot of use out of this and already have. It especially came in handy when I felt nauseous those first few days after my surgery.

Jewelry tray - I really thought I'd have no use for this and was annoyed when I got it because I thought it would be a waste, but I proved myself wrong. I took this up to my study carrel at school and used it to keep binder clips and paper clips on and it's actually at my work desk right now doing the same thing. It's perfect because it's copper and my stuff is rose gold but the colors are close enough that they match. And I've realized the big heart is actually perfect to clip a horizontal picture of me and Ry on!

Cuticle oil - I've used this exactly once, not because I didn't like it or anything but just because it's an easy thing to forget about. It did make my cuticles soft so I really should get it out more, but it's so tiny it's easy to miss.

Lip crayon/balm - I was a little disappointed by the color I ended up with because it's almost the same shade as my natural skin tone so you can't really tell that I'm wearing it. And since it's just a lip crayon, it doesn't last near as long as my lip stains. But this actually turned out to be my saving grace this winter when the air was so dry that the lip stains were causing my lips to dry out and chap so I switched to this and although I had to reapply it throughout the day, I didn't have chapped lips and still had some color on me.

Beanie - Instead of the belt that is pictured, I opted for a black beanie. I tried wearing it to my nephew's peewee football game and it just didn't last. It's so loose that you're supposed to wear it sagging off the back of your head but that was just a little too hipster for me and I had to pull it down. But then I looked stupid wearing a black knit beanie. The whole way to the game my sister and I had fun making fun of it— saying I looked like Eminem in 8 Mile in it, that I looked like a Sticky Bandit from Home Alone in it, or that I should be down by the dock bringing in my catch of the day in it. The pink probably would have been better (I just went for black because I thought it'd go with more) but honestly even then I probably wouldn't wear this just because of the shape of it, plus it was REALLY thin so it was definitely made to be more of an accessory than to actually keep you warm.

Cottonelle wipes - Cottonelle sent this sponsored sample to get people hooked on their products, but jokes on them I already use these and love them (seriously go try it, it's worth the $). Since I already have these at my house, I threw this little sample pack into my toiletries bag to have some when I travel because now I guess I'm that extra.

Scarf - I ordered this in pink instead of the gray in the picture (I'm an idiot and didn't match my scarf to my beanie). I tried to wear this out of the house once but it was just so damn big and fluffy I chickened out because it just didn't feel me. However, since then I've repurposed it to be a runner on my bed because the pink looks perfect on top of my navy duvet cover. I also do think that it would be perfect for traveling with because it's so big you can use it as a blanket. And now, a funny story about this scarf— I came home from work the day after I got my fall FFF box in and see this...

Me *laughing*: What are you doing?
Ryan: I got cold..
Me: Why didn't you just turn off the AC?
Ryan: Well I was gaming and couldn't get up and you left your box on the couch with everything in it so I just grabbed this.
Me *laughing*: Oh, okay.
Him: Actually can you turn on the fan? I'm getting a little hot.
Me: Why don't you just take it off?
Him: Well it's soft and I kinda like it

So when I went to choose what I wanted to get in my box, I saw that you can get some add-ons so I paid extra to get three.

Felt hat - I love hats on fashion bloggers that I see, so I ordered a black felt hat and I regret it. From now on I'm sticking to only floppy hats. I tried to wear this to Thanksgiving and even tried to take an artsy picture in it and I just could. not. It looks like a damn Canadian Mounty hat! Why is it so tall?? Ugh I wish I could return it because it was just awkward AF.

Lip scrub - I've seen plenty of makeup tutorial videos to know that everyone always recommends using this when getting ready and now I know why. Wow the difference it makes! My lips are sooooo much softer now that I use this every morning and lipsticks/stains definitely look better on me after I use this.

Brunch shirt - Hands down this is my favorite thing I've ever gotten from FFF (and probably ever will)! I love this shirt! Not only is it super cute, but it's crazy comfortable. It's made out of kinda the same material that jerseys are made out of so you just want to lounge around it all day. Tbh I may or may not wear this every single weekend. It's just perfect. And I was a little worried about sizing since it was a one size fits all, but it actually fit really well (for reference, this photo is with my old boobs).

Fab: 5 (lip crayon, cuticle oil, mud mask, Cottonelle wipes, charcoal whitener)
Fit: 2 (gym bag, ice pack,
Fun: 3 (scarf, jewelry tray, beanie)

Winter 2017 box

I found this picture off the internet since I can't take pretty pictures of all of my stuff anymore and since each box is a little different, I don't have everything in this picture and instead have some things not listed.

Hair mask - I chose to get a hair mask instead of gold under-eye patches because I figured I'd get more use out of it, but to be honest I have yet to use this and while righting this post just thought Duh Nikki, why don't you just add the hair mask to your weekend bubble bath? and I have no clue why I haven't done this yet lol. I think it's because I've been using coconut oil for so long that I just forget to try this instead. For me it has kinda ended up like the cuticle oil from the last box where it's a good product I just can't ever remember that I have it.

Poncho - I have yet to wear this poncho/wrap. My boss wore one the other day and she looked pretty good in it, but I do not. It makes me wish I would've gotten the black belt in my Fall box instead of the beanie because I've seen a lot of other FFF users pair those together so it doesn't look like you're just wearing a potato sack. Like the scarf from the last box, I'm anticipating that I probably won't use this until I travel.

Coffee mug - I don't drink coffee and don't even have a coffee maker so I didn't think I would even use this, but as I mentioned in my makeup organizing post I've realized that this is absolutely perfect to store my tall lip stains and mascaras so technically I actually use this every day.

Necklace - I wasn't the biggest fan of this necklace when I first got it because in all honesty it seemed like it was made out of the same material as the chain on closet lights that you pull to turn the light on. And it tangled pretty badly when I was getting it out. But I forced myself to wear it out with this bodysuit and it actually looked really great! While it isn't something I would normally wear myself, once I pushed myself of my style I realized that I really liked it.

Face exfoliator - I was a little annoyed at getting another exfoliator after I had just gotten one two boxes ago, but I realized this was because I wasn't really using what they had sent me. If I had been using the first exfoliator more, then I would've ran out before they sent this one. So now I have a weekend routine where I take a bubble bath and will exfoliate my face to use up what I have. This exfoliator is an ugly green color and smells a little weird but damn it makes my face soft! I really do love this and am glad they sent it to me even if I didn't need it.

Hand lotion - Truthfully I don't use this that much. I was a little disappointed that this was used with materials from the Dead Sea because I hate how Lokai bracelets and other items like this are exploiting and ruining the Dead Sea, but that's my own opinion. It's fine for a lotion but I already have lotion so I don't end up using this anymore.

Aloe socks - I haven't gotten around to wearing these yet. I originally was saving them to wear while I was recovering from my surgery and then when that time came around I wasn't in the mood for them anymore.

Makeup palette - This, like the exfoliator, I was a little annoyed at because I just got this a few months ago. I'm not a big fan of how the eyeshadows slide around and there's so much plastic around this thing that it's actually really heavy. So much so that at first I was keeping this in my purse as to-go touchup makeup because the colors are pretty but it weighed down my bag so much that I switched it out for the last palette they sent me. It now just sits on my dresser and rarely gets used.

Workout ball - I chose this instead of the pillow sleep spray and based off the reviews of that, I regret my choice. Although the ball is small and has lots of use when I work out, I would much rather fall asleep easier than have something to figure out how to incorporate it into my workout routine.

Fab: 4 (hair mask, exfoliator, lotion, eyeshadow)
Fit: 1 (exercise ball)
Fun: 4 (poncho, coffee mug, necklace, socks)

Spring 2018 box

What products of the Spring 2018 Fab Fit Fun subscription box are a hit or a miss? How many "fab", "fit", and "fun" products do you actually get? I'm answering both these questions by taking a look back at my last 3 boxes - Spring 2018, Winter 2017, and Fall 2017 and talking about whether or not Fab Fit Fun is still worth it. lifestyle blog. | brazenandbrunette.com

Since I just got this box last week, I haven't been able to really test much so a lot of this is going to be first impressions.

Candle - This candle is so pretty I almost didn't want to use it, but it smells great. I got to choose which sent I wanted but that's kinda hard to do online since you can't smell it.

Lip gloss palette - I mentioned on my Insta stories that I thought this looked like little kids play makeup since it's we all had that lip gloss and brush set and this is literally just like that! But I did play around with this and the colors are actually pretty and it goes on your lips smoothly and it stays for a decent amount of time. Just can't get over that damn toddler brush.

Face lotion - I haven't used this yet because I already use Cetaphil face moisturizer every day anyways. However, this claims to help minimize pores so it's worth trying to use it.

Massage roller - I just started working out this week for the first time in months and was looking forward to this box's arrival just so I could try this! Ooh this feels so good on my sore muscles and has helped to get rid of some of the knots in my back. My only wish would be that the spikes were shorter and duller because they can kinda hurt you when you aren't even using that much pressure. I've also realized that you for sure have to use this over clothes because it hurts more directly on skin.

Nail polish filler - I had just gotten a fresh manicure a few days before this box came in, so I haven't had a use for this since it's supposed to fill in for your polish when your nails grow. I'll try to use this but I have a strong feeling that this will be forgotten just as easily as the cuticle oil was. I just don't do that many at-home manicures to ever think about these products.

Tassel earrings - I chose these in black and although originally I felt like these weren't my style, I'm actually excited to try them out when I go to the Houston Rodeo because I think they seem fitting.

Lip mask - I chose this instead of another item (can't remember which tho lol) and have tried one so far. These things are huge which makes them a little hard to keep from falling off. I ended up taking mine off after 5 minutes because I kept gagging because it felt like I was accidentally going to swallow the silicone mask, so I'm not even sure how well these work.

Eye mask - First off I was super excited that they partnered up with Free People because FP is an expensive brand! I've only used this eye mask once but I really loved it! I learned that the hour mark for how long to freeze the insert is just long enough because you want it to me slushy so that you can fit it back in to the eye mask and any longer than an hour it can get still and hard to maneuver back in. Once I got the insert in, it felt perfectly cool, but not cold, against my skin. Even without the insert, this works great as a sleeping mask because it doesn't put a lot of pressure on your eyes and is thick enough to really block out light!

Clutch - I just chose this pattern because none of what was offered was really my style, but I really like the cream of it when I flip the pattern to the inside. I'm not a big clutch girl because I tend to sit things down and forget about them, so we'll see how often this gets used.

Fab: 4 (lipgloss set, face moisturizer, polish filler, lip mask)
Fit: 1 (massage roller)
Fun: 4 (candle, earrings, eye mask, clutch)

And there you have it, my past three FFF boxes (finally!). Overall I'm happier than I expected to be with what I'm getting. I've learned that I need to work on actually using all of the products since I've already paid for them and usually they're good products. I have noticed that for 3 out of my past 4 boxes, they've all had some kind of wrap (bikini cover up, scarf, poncho). And for 3/4, I've gotten some kind of makeup set (eyeshadow, eyeshadow again, and lipgloss). And every time I've either gotten a new piece of jewelry or a jewelry holder.

One thing I wish they'd work on is the "fit" part. Part of the reason that I signed up was because all the Pinterest adds had it as a fitness subscription box. As you can see in my monthly breakdowns, the ration of Fab to Fun is about the same but usually you only get 1 Fit item per box. As someone who aims to workout regularly (and noted so in my intake quiz), I could probably use more workout accessories than another eyeshadow palette. But, to be fair I do realize that they have a wide audience to please so it can be a challenge to have a box that someone who doesn't even workout would still want. I'll just continue to keep an eye out for some fitness add-ons that I can add to my boxes.

Hey guys it's me again back from the farm! No seriously lol if you follow me on snapchat I hope you enjoyed my dad taking advantage of the free labor 😂 Anyways last week as I was making my Why You Should Be a Morning Person post I got to thinking about my morning routine and thought I'd share it with y'all so you can see what all you can be getting done if you just set your alarm a little earlier.

5:30 - Wake up

Not much to say here. But one thing worth repeating is do. not. let. yourself. press. snooze. You're not going to get in any quality sleep in the next 5 minutes and you're just wasting your time. No matter how hard it is, force yourself to at least sit up and bed and turn the lights on and wake up. It's definitely an adjustment at first but once your internal clock gets synced with your alarm clock, you'll start waking up on your own and it'll be more natural for your body.

6:00 - Workout

I workout first thing in the morning. Not only will it for sure wake your brain up before class but it also is better for your metabolism to work out right after you wake up. Obviously I prefer spin class but even just a quick walk around the block will do! The key here is to just get your body moving and it will wake up your brain. Pro tip— sleep in your workout clothes and then all you have to do is roll out of bed, brush your teeth, put on your shoes, and head off! Then you're in such a good mood the rest of the day because you started your day being so healthy and productive and those endorphins make you happy so you're all motivated to conquer the world.

Related: Spin class for beginners

7:15 - Shower

I don't do public showers so I come straight from the gym to shower. The good thing about my thick hair is that as long as it was clean before the gym, it'll absorb most of the sweat so I can get by with a shower cap and a teeny bit of dry shampoo since I prefer to wash my hair in the evenings. This shower is mostly just to get all of the sweat off of my body since I like to sit in the sauna for about 10 minutes after the workout. Most importantly, I wash my face because one downside to working out consistently is that your face is most likely going to break out real bad because it's getting more oil than it was used to back when shopping was your cardio. I've mentioned that I went and got me a Clarisonic because of this, but I think it deserves it's own section so more on that in a second. But I just keep mine in the shower since it's waterproof and then when I see it I'm reminded to wash my face.

7:30 - Breakfast

So y'all know I'm a picky eater by now. Well on my 25th birthday at brunch I was feeling all fancy so I was like sure I'll try eggs on a muffin even though it sounds disgusting because Eggs Benedict sounds fancy. I loved them! So I'm having them like 3 times a week right now (it's like when you hear a song that you like so you listen to it 5,000 times until you're sick of it) but other great breakfast ideas are yogurt with blueberries and granola or toast with peanut butter and banana slices or breakfast burritos.

8:00 - Me time

This is what I think will be the thing that surprises you. Having "me time" sounds soo clihé so let me know if y'all know of a better phrase but it's really what sets you up to have a good day! On Sundays when I'm at the library I'll write out my week in my planner with my classes, work, and meetings that I've got going on. But during this time I think of everything that I need to get done that day and what I need to do to accomplish this. I take all of this and make me a daily to-do list. I read somewhere that if you write down a task you're more likely to do it and so far I feel like that's actually true. This is also where I read my emails because a cluttered inbox drives me crazy (you people with 1,000 unread emails I don't understand you. you're on a totally different level than me).

8:15 - Pick out clothes

Am I the only one that has to do this like first thing? It's weird I know but usually how I do my hair and makeup depends on my outfit for that day. Pro tip— check the weather first! It drives me crazy that some people don't do this because sometimes it's 50° in the morning but 80° by the time class is out so if you didn't check the weather you're going to be dying in your sweater at lunch.

8:30 - Hair and makeup

Ok actually I do makeup then hair but it just sounds better the other way. Two reasons for this... 1) your hair can be out of your way while you do your makeup and it's okay because you're not creasing what you just straightened; 2) curls fall so you want to prolong that by doing your hair last minute. This is why it's important that I already washed my face in the shower so now it's for sure completely makeup and oil free. Side note- you sweat a little in your sleep so even if you don't work out it's still a good idea to wash your face first.

Taking the time to do your hair and makeup may sound like a waste of time but everyone is staring at you when you're called on and when you look good, you feel good, and then your thoughts are more The model rules say this about the plaintiff's argument instead of omg everyone has to have noticed that I look tired/sick when I'm not wearing mascara. Likewise, it's also hard to get the nerve to introduce yourself to a judge who is visiting your school when you have a messy bun that's real heavy on the messy and kinda wouldn't even be considered a bun.

9:00 - Head to school

This usually gives me at least an hour to review my notes before my first class of the day (on mornings that I have to be there by 9 I just speed things up just a bit to get there on time). By the time I'm sitting in my class, I've usually been going for at least 3 hours so I'm fully awake and have my life together. We've all been there where you're trying to eat a pop tart at your desk as quietly and mess-free as possible so for sure no judgment but you gotta admit it does feel nice to be in class and able to fully concentrate without your stomach rumbling. And bonus points that you'll get a wayyyy closer parking spot at 9 than you would at 11.

So that's my morning routine! I find it's really comforting to get into a routine and be able to know that each morning you're going to get a lot done. And once your body goes on auto-pilot, waking up early will start to be something that comes natural to you. Give it a week and you'll be feeling like such a real adult and so proud of yourself being a productive member of society.

Ok now to the Clarisonic review! I already had the Mia Fit but I know that it's one of the pricier option so I jumped at the chance to get to talk about a more I'm-drowning-in-student-loans price option.

Clarisonic Mia 1

So the first thing to do with your Mia 1 is to charge it up. Pro tip— if you get your Mia in the morning (haha I like that alliteration), don't set it up to charge just yet and wait until the evening. I say this because I got mine at like 9 and then plugged it in and set the timer on my phone for 18 hours (how long it takes to charge) and was so excited for the timer to go off so that I could finally try it out. Then 3am rolled around and I woke up with a heart attack to my timer going off. So just put a little thought into when you start that timer and you'll thank me later.

To use it, it's basically a no-brainer and is pretty self explanatory. Remove any makeup that you're wearing and then rinse your face. Wet the brush and then add your face wash. Clarisonic does have their own face wash but you can use face wash that you already have. Then simply just push the button and turn it on. It goes for a minute so what I do is go over my T zone for 20 seconds, my chin and the corners of my nose for 20, then each cheek for 10. Then rinse off your face and the brush. How I rinse the brush is I cup a little water in my hand and then gently swirl the brush against my hand until all of the soap is gone. And that's all folks! It's just a minute out of your day but ooh you're going to love how velvety your skin starts to feel.

Here's what not to do... Don't scrub your face with the Mia. This thing is already working much more efficiently than your fingers alone so it doesn't need you to go hard like you're trying to clean grout or something. Hold the Mia with a loose wrist and just steer it over your skin and it will do the work for you. Another no-no just for safety is to wait until your Mia is dry before you charge it. I know the charger external but it's better to just be safe. In fact, what I do is just put up the charger and let the Mia run down until the battery light comes on and then I'll charge it and repeat so I usually don't even have this problem. This last don't is a big one so listen up. Don't give up and think it's not working if you don't see immediate results or even if you start to break out a little extra. The Mia is getting deep into your pores and unclogging them hardcore. Having all this crud come up faster than it normally would if you were just using your hands can make it feel like your face is breaking out because of the treatment. Trust me when I say give it about two weeks (maybe a little longer if you were having some major issues) because it'll get worse before it gets better.

Mia 1 v. Mia Fit

The first obvious difference is the look. Take the Mia 1, cut off the handle, and then you have the Mia Fit. The benefit of the Fit is that it's more compact than the 1 so it takes up less room on your shower shelf, but the benefit of the 1 is that it's easier to grab. If you're not sure what would be more comfortable for you to hold, hold your blow drier in one hand and a regular 8oz drinking cup from the bottom in the other and that's about the grip difference.

The Fit also has 2 speeds while the 1 only has 1 so that's easy to remember haha. The 1's only setting is the normal setting on the Fit and this is just a good every-day setting. The Fit's other setting is more like a power boost for after a particularly sweaty workout or if your face is just going haywire and you need a little extra help. I tested out the 1 for this post and I use the Fit's normal setting a lot so I feel like you really won't be missing out too much without this power boost and you most likely will be just fine with only one setting.

Another difference is the chargers. The 1's charger is a small circle that magnetically snaps on to the front. The Fit's charger is like a tea saucer that you just sit it in. Both are pretty easy and just as long as the magnets get close to each other they'll snap into place and stay put. As for battery life, I personally felt like they lasted about the same.

The Fit has these little prompts (different vibration) that will tell you when to move from your T-zone to chin to cheeks. The 1 just turns on and lets you go where ever you want for however long you want. I didn't feel like this is a big difference because it's not really that hard to just count to 20 in your head and then move on to a different part of your face. And if you're the personality type that doesn't like being bossed around then you might actually prefer the 1 so that you don't get interrupted every couple of seconds to move around.

I know price is going to be a big deciding factor for y'all so let's get straight to it. The Mia 1 is about $100 cheaper than the Mia Fit. They both come with the normal speed setting, wireless/magnetic charging, and are travel-ready when you use the brush head cap. What you're getting with the Fit over the 1 is more compact and an extra speed so it's really up to you if that's worth it or not. They also both come with free engraving which I was a fan of because we all know how I live and breathe monograms so that's a plus.

Little tips

Remove your makeup before washing your face. Clarisonic is made to clean your pores so it can't do it's job as well if it first has to strip off your makeup first. Having makeup on when you wash your face will also stain your brush into an ugly brown and then it will always look dirty. Your face doesn't have to be a clean slate before you wash it, but at least use a makeup remover wipe first to make sure your face is really getting clean.

Did you know that the brush head actually comes apart? When I first got mine I was so excited just playing around with it and thought that I accidentally broke the brush until I realized that this smaller size is great for getting right up in the edge of your nose (which is where blackheads always hide on me). About every other time that I use my Clarisonic I will take the brush apart and do a more nooks-and-crannies wash.

Try out different brush heads. I read a lot of reviews from beauty bloggers who swore by one brush and then the next review would say that a different one is the absolute best. Everyone has different skin problems and everyone has different types of skin so see what works best for you. Even then keep mixing it up! For example, when I first started working out I really used the deep pore cleansing brush a lot because I was like woah my face looks like I'm 14 again. I've also used the acne brush for those times I get hormonal breakouts from stress and need a little touch up. Since these two have helped my face get back to normal, right now I mostly use the radiance brush because I personally feel like it makes my face super smooth and my makeup just glides on there and I love it. Clarisonic has really been expanding their lineup and basically have a brush for anything you could need (pedis, facial massaging, makeup applying). Just remember to save the little cap that comes with the brush so you can have a brush cover when you travel.

Don't be afraid to treat yo' self! I completely understand that dropping $130 on beauty product can seem too luxurious after you've just paid an ungodly amount on casebooks. But I do have two good pieces of news for you. 1) use the code HERCAMPUS to save 15% off your purchase and 2) Clarisonic offers a payment plan so for less than a latte a week you can get you a Mia.

Add your brush head replacement into your calendar. Your brush will last you about 3 months and then it's time for it to go. One easy way to remember this is that a new season means you need to replace your brush head (January, April, July, October). Or if you end up like I did and order in the middle of the season, then right when you get your new brush in go ahead and make in your planner to get a new one 3 months out from now. I like to buy mine in bulk so that I save a little bit in the long run.
let's be friends!
