Hello again! After tearing open an incision while unpacking my apartment, I have finally healed enough to where I can finally workout! I had my surgery 2 months ago so I've actually started to miss working out. Since I'm not at my school anymore I don't have access to a free gym and it's make me miss spin class so much ☹️ I don't have it in my budget to pay for a gym membership so I've been getting creative with figuring out how to workout at home. The hardest part about working out in a small apartment (I'm currently in a studio apartment) is that there's basically no room to store a bunch of equipment so I wanted to take today to share the space-saving equipment that I use and love.

Yoga mat

Even if you don't do a lot of yoga, I'd suggest getting a yoga mat. It will give you extra padding when you're doing things like planks so you're not being hard on your joints and is extra helpful if you have hard floors. And you'll want something smooth so you don't accidentally give yourself carpet burn when you're doing floor exercises. It' also polite to have just so your neighbor can't hear you thumping around while doing burpees. You can roll it up and tuck it in the corner of your closet or lay it out flat and slide it under your couch or bed when you're done.

Jump rope

Jump ropes take up almost no space but are a great workout to do for even just a minute. If it's a nice day you can go outside and find a grassy area to jump rope in so the grass can be a little cushion under your feat. But if you have to workout inside, I highly suggest you jump rope on a yoga mat so you're not annoying whoever lives below you. If you're up for a challenge, you can try out a weighted jump rope to get more of a workout in. You can easily store this in a small drawer when you're done with it.

Resistance bands

The great thing about these is that they can really up your workout but also don't take up hardly any room. I try to put them around my legs and do pulses with it during commercial breaks while I'm watching TV. I have these resistance bands and I love that it comes with a little booklet and has a full body workout with how to do the separate workouts and with what band. These also are small enough to be stashed in a drawer when you're not using them.

Light hand weights

I started doing this arm workout video last summer and I love it! It's short but is a great workout and when she asks "can you feel it?" in the video, my answer is always yes haha. For the workout, I bought a set of 5 pound weights which doesn't sound like much but after 10 minutes of an arm workout they feel like they've tripled in weight! I make these work for all of my other workouts as well because I don't have room to buy a set of weights. The best part about light weights is that they're smaller than heavier ones so these fit under my TV stand in between workouts.

Ankle weights

Bodyweight workouts require no equipment and it's literally just you lifting your bodyweight instead of a barbell so they're perfect for doing at-home. But if you add ankle weights, you can really up your workout without even really trying. Try doing a donkey kick with these on and you'll notice a huge difference! Again, even though you're using light weights, they will start to feel like lead halfway through your workout. Because these are flat when they're not on your wrist/ankle, you can store them under your bed, couch, or TV stand.

Apple TV

So usually TV's are associated with gaining weight, but I love using my Apple TV to workout! I use the YouTube app to pull up workout videos and have found that they're easier to follow along with than when I try to watch a video on my laptop. I also really like the 7 minute workout app because it's a great, quick workout that has an Apple TV app. Even if your workout doesn't have an Apple TV app, you can play it on the TV off your iPhone using AirPlay! It's just easier to have it really big and at eye level so you're not looking down the whole workout.

And that's it! Five and half pieces of equipment all under $30 (except the Apple TV lol) and you can do a full body workout no matter how little room you have! I've added my Pinterest board below to give you some ideas on at-home workouts that you can do 😊 And now you don't have an excuse not to workout just because you don't have a gym!
